  • Drowning Pool  ( 0 items )
Drowning Pool exhorts fans to charge the mosh pit on its single "Bodies," from its 2001 debut "Sinner" (Wind-Up). Singer Dave Williams' invitation, "let the bodies hit the floor," has become the latest rallying cry for the OzzFest demographic, which has embraced this relative newcomer with a fervor usually reserved for elder statesmen like Slipknot. Musically, the quartet sounds as if its members have digested too much Korn without attaining Nirvana. The band follows the nu-metal boilerplate almost too faithfully. Drowning Pool's generic vents about alienation and unrequited love come straight from the Angry Young Man's Handbook, but Williams' expressive vocals help to distinguish the band from its hardcore peers. And in the current hard-rock climate, his enthusiasm counts for a lot.

  • Kenny Chesney  ( 0 items )
In the absence of Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney is the artist of choice for fans of the seamless fusion of New Country and '70s soft rock. That audience has voted with its wallets, helping Knoxville-born singer hit multi-platinum paydirt. As much as his Number One 2004 album "When the Sun Goes Down" (BNA) evokes Brooks and Alan Jackson, the influence of populist Everyman songwriters James Taylor and Jimmy Buffet is also readily apparent.
