According to the not-for-profit organization The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, or ICIC, and Inc. Magazine, these three Miami companies, namely Latin Node, Envirowaste Services Group, and Kira builds are the three fastest growing inner-city businesses in America.

The companies ranked 20, 46 and 69 respectively.

The international Internet telephony provider Latin Node, which ranked No. 20 and also No. 8 in the fastest-growing 100 directory by Hispanic Business magazine, has a reported revenue of about $132.48 million and has had a 5-year growth rate of 725.22 percent.

Envirowaste Services Group, which specializes sewer system cleaning and rehabilitation, ranked at No. 46, and has a reported revenue of $4.01 million and has had a 5-year growth rate of 307.98 percent.

Kira builds, which ranked No. 69, specializes in military housing and facilities management and maintenance. It has a reported revenue of $32.11 million and has had a 5-year growth rate of 198.27 percent.

These companies, which should have at least 51 percent operations located in economically distressed urban areas, were selected from over 4,500 other nominations from 150 cities.

Michael Krop, a high senior, and soon-to-be graduate Weina N. Scott, the chief executive of Switchpod.com, were the recipients of ICIC’s 2007 Growing Up CEO award for this month, which is another contest that highlights inner-city entrepreneurs under the age of 21.
